Twenty years ago, a deeply evil individual murdered innocent people in a small town, leaving their families and friends shattered and broken. Now, as people are dying again, is it him again or has he let loose other monsters to do his bidding?

Chloe Davis is one of the people who suffered due to the serial killer. She currently practices as a psychologist and is haunted by the events of her past when her father abducted and killed six teenage girls.

He’s in prison and Chloe has broken all ties with him. As she looks forward to her wedding with Daniel Briggs, she’s trying to put the past behind her. Self-medicating with illegal prescriptions and significant amounts of alcohol, she seems to completely unravel when more girls get murdered.

On top of that, the added stress of planning the wedding and ensuring that two men she loves — Daniel and her brother Cooper can see past their mutual dislike for each other.

What is Chloe’s connection to the killer? Why do the girls seem to have some connection with her? The story twists and turns violently, not meandering for a second. Who can she trust? Can she trust her own drug-addled brain?

It’s a story well-told, though I did see the plot twist coming from a mile away. The characters are largely well-written, if not exceptional. Nevertheless, the damp end not withstanding, this is a book that got my attention but did not really set things on fire.

A middle of the road — 3ish star for me.
